TEEMANAY, a.k.a “Young Icon” is a New York based Afrobeat and Dancehall singer from Nigeria. He graduated from the Department of Human Anatomy in Delta State University, Nigeria,and then relocated to South Africa to further his studies in Medicine as approved by his parents,but Teemanay saw it as an opportunity to established his long growing passion for music. He gave up Medicine for Music as against his parents wish.
He made it official in November 2014 with a debut single titled “Girl For The Night”,which he submitted for a radio competition in one of South Africa’s popular radio station called UJ Fm 95.4 and Teemanay won the award for best new Artist. That moment gave birth to the affirmation of his decision to follow his passion to the ends of the globe,since then Teemanay has released a couple of singles and performed in many platforms both locally and Internationally across the globe. His love for Afro Dancehall as he calls it pushed him to travel far and wide in search of a suitable environment that allows him to maximize his potential as an energetic performer and great singer with vocal dexterity. Teemanay hopes to bridge the gap between Afrobeat and Dancehall in totality and also influence the Hip Hop Culture Of New York and beyond with his unique sound as he travels through his musical journey. Teemanay released a New Single titled “SumTing Lite” on the 10th Of October 2018 and he has just been nominated as “Best Promising Local Artist” in this year’s Africa Entertainment Award USA 2018. SumTing Lite was produced by London based Producer “JayLon” and it was engineered by New York’s finest “Draf”.
The new single has so far been making good waves across the City and in Africa,Teemanay has currently been rated as New York’s Favorite Afrobeats Artist as he is at the fore front of every African related gatherings in the City,from the Nigerian Independence, To African Restaurant week festival, to performing at the just concluded One Africa Music Fest in New York, to headlining the Afrobeats fest of the Schomburg Center Of Museum Of Arts (New York City), to mention a few. The “Young Icon” as he is also called,is here to stay and is sure to bring much pride to the African Diaspora.
